REFLECTIONS ON THE SUMMER OF 2015
As today's thunderstorms threaten to change the seasons, it seems only fitting to help summer linger on a little longer, by reflecting upon the activities of the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB, and their current QUEEN, Sherri McGhie, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2015.
July and August were busy months for both QUEEN Sherri and the CLUB, with showcases in Jackson and, concluded with another appearance at Kennedy Plaza and the Armed Forces Parade, both held in Atlantic City.
QUEEN Sherri opened the NJCC SHOWCASE at Care One in Jackson on July 23rd, with a lively song.
She joins the ladies for the finale, as they sing a medley of songs from Motown, saluting Diana Ross and the the Supremes.
In between events, QUEEN Sherri made a personal appearance at the Tropicana Casino and Resort. On Monday, August 24th, she attended the casino's "TASTE OF THE QUARTER", and was a celebrity chef. The annual event was held for the benefit of the United Way. She was chaperoned by Johanne Santori, Administrator/Director of the MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT.
Awaiting the event, Johanne and QUEEN Sherri relax in the lounge, with her Mom, Norma McGhie, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 1995.
The 2nd NJCC SHOWCASE, at Kennedy Plaza was held on, Tuesday, August 18th. This year, 3 "sisters" from the MS NEW YORK SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT were invited to perform. Prior to the show, QUEEN Sherri and CJ Marie/MSNYSA2015, pose in front of the MS AMERICA statue, located on the boardwalk at Kennedy Plaza.
The day was hot, and despite technical problems, the show was a resounding success.
For the finale, the ladies sang a patriotic medley, "This Is My Country/God Bless America". Jo Ann Gordon, MSNJSA2008, standing at the far left, signs the song, while the ladies sing. The crowd stood up in respect of the song, and joined in.
This year, the parade marshall recognized the extraordinary talents of the ladies of the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB, by placing the group's float first in the 5th ANNUAL ARMED FORCES PARADE. The event took place on Monday, August 31st, on the boardwalk in Atlantic City. They were preceded only by the convertibles carrying dignitaries, military groups, marching bands, and a motorcycle brigade.
QUEEN Sherri is flanked by Johanne Santori/MSNJSA2006, and Carol Dugan/MSNJSA2012, as she leads the group in singing, "Tie A Yellow Ribbon".
Besides QUEEN Sherri's solo, the group performed a mini concert containing 6 numbers, most of which were medleys, including 3 or more songs, while riding down the boardwalk. At this point, they were singing a 5 song medley called "Broadway Blockbusters". The crowd enjoyed listening to songs from Broadway's longest running shows which included: One/A Chorus Line; theme song from Beauty & the Beast; Tradition/Fiddlar on the Roof; Sun & Moon/Miss Saigon; and Do You Hear The People Sing/Les Miserables.
Kudos to these fabulous ladies who share their God given talents years after year, and bring joy to everyone they touch, and to Sherri, who is such a loving and giving QUEEN. As the seasons change, may God grant them good health, in the year ahead, as they perform in future NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB SHOWCASES.
