Earlier this year Carol Dugan/MSNJSA 2012 and REBECCA FORD LANASA/MSFLSA 2012, attended a Zumba convention in Florida.  When Carol read Rebecca's resume on the Senior America national website and discovered that Rebecca was also a Zumba instructor, she decided to email her.  In the months that followed, the two Queens became friends, and began to make plans for the upcoming Zumba convention.  One, in particular, was to wear their crown and banner during convention week.  This created much interest about the Ms Senior America Pageant organization, among the participants.  A representative from the Lifetime Television Network who was covering the Zumba convention,  took their names and invited them to a guest appearance on the Susanne Somers Show.  Since her show originates in California,  the ladies had to go there, so, they were given free airfare and lodging.  Also, they had to sign an agreement to keep their appearance secret until the network gave them permission to announce it.  The show was video taped during the summer.   At last the secret is out and the date(s) have been released as the following:

 The following weekend, the show will also air on:

AND        SUNDAY, NOVEMBER  25 - 7:00 AM

The search for "the gracious lady who best exemplifies the dignity, maturity and inner beauty of all Senior Americans" is over, and the winner of the MS SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT 2012, was a California woman.  However, CAROL DUGAN, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2012, scored enough points to make the 2012 QUEEN'S COURT.  The 5 day Pageant was held during the week of October 7th, at Harrah's Resort Hotel and Casino, in Atlantic City, in the Concert Venue Theater.

Carol looked beautiful and stylish, in a pink gown which she modeled in the Evening Gown and Philosophy of Life Catagories.  The graceful train of her gown allowed her to glide effortlessly across the stage.  Among the contestants, hers was one of the few life affirming and uplifting Philosophies of Life that were presented.

At the Final Pageant on Thursday Otober 11th, the TOP 10 was chosen.  The judges chose not only the best contestants nationwide, but a group of women  possessing a wide variety of performing talents, ranging form grand opera to soul music, and piano performance to rap dancing.

As the field narrowed, CAROL DUGAN, made 4th runner up, and became part of the 2012 MS SENIOR AMERICA'S QUEEN'S COURT.  The ladies are from right to left: 3rd RU, Boni Losee/MSUTSA;
1st RU, MSSCSA/Laura Mac Fayden;  MSSA2012/Elisabeth Howard;  2nd RU,  Lillie Madison/MSTXSA;  and 4th RU, Carol Dugan/MSNJSA.  During this year of their reigns, each lady will represent the National Queen, should she be unable to appear at scheduled events in their regions of the country.  Queen CAROL DUGAN, will represent the entire Northeast Region.

Former MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA QUEENS stood proudly beside CAROL DUGAN in the photo session that followed the Pageant.  From left to right are:  Bernadette Dudek/MSNJSA'09;
Josephine Araniti/MSNJSA'07; Norma MCGhie/MSNJSA'95; Carol Dugan/MSNJSA'12; Johanne Santori/MSNJSA'06 & MSNJSA STATE PAGEANT DIRECTOR; Rebecca Orsatti/MSNJSA'10; Sandra Greco/MSNJSA'03 & MSSA'03; and Jo Ann Gordon/MSNJSA'08.

The GRAND BALL is a time of celebration and fun for all the contestants.  The gala event was held on Wednesday evening, prior to the Final Pageant.  Ladies from the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB and former MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA QUEENS attended the Ball, and joined together with CAROL DUGAN to wish her good luck.

The "Royal Couple" posed together outside the ballroom.  John, Carol's husband, was the stabilizing force and her "rock" during Pageant Week. He provided a quiet haven for her to return to, during a hectic week of grueling rehearsals and judges' interviews.

CAROL DUGAN, will remember the MS SENIOR AMERICA NATIONAL PAGEANT 2012, as a wonderful time in her life.  In her own words, "it was unbelievable.  I was so ecxited to be 4th runner up, because the talent this year was remarkable.  It was very over the top.  I've never met so many talented, elegent, beautiful and intelligent women, some of whom I will be communicating with for the rest of my life".

It's not the dress that makes the person, but the person who makes the dress!  CAROL DUGAN, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2012 looked stunning and demure in this black gown she wore for the Evening Gown Portion of the  MSNJSA PAGEANT 2012 last June.  Recently, Carol went shopping for her new wardrobe for the MS SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT 2012, with the help of  2 "sisters",  Rebecca Orsatti, MSNJSA 2010, and Johanne Santori, MSNJSA 2006, and MSNJSA State Pageant Director.  Presently, she is keeping  its contents under lock and key and stored in a secret location!   Carol would only say that her new clothes contain the "wow factor" that she hopes will please both the audience and judges.

Carol has been doing a tremendous job as Ambassador of Love, wherever she appears throughout the Garden State.  She makes her constituents happy with her songs and speeches of hope.

All of us connected with the MS NEW JERSEY STATE PAGEANT, and her "sisters" in the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB want to congratulate her on a job well done as she prepares for the upcoming MS SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT 2012, and the following are some expressions of how we feel about our gracious Queen:

 You are always there when needed, to show that you really care.
 Your positive attitude never lets life knock you down.
 You've become a partner to yours "sisters", to share in our tears and laughter.
 You are someone willing to share the good and the bad, and make a committment through thick and thin.
 You are always as close as a phone call away to listen, and to share your advise.
 You are a joy to be with, and we are all so priviledged to call you our friend!

No one can know the potential of a life that is committed to win;
With courage - the challenges it faces, to achieve great success in the end!

So, explore the Dimension of Greatness, and believe that the world CAN be won,
By a mind that is fully committed, KNOWING the task can be done!

Your world has no place for the skeptic, no room for the DOUBTER to stand;
To weaken you from resolution that you CAN EXCEL in this land!

We must have VISION TO SEE our potential, and FAITH TO BELIEVE that we can;
Then COURAGE TO ACT with conviction, to become what GOD MEANT us to be!

So, possess the strengh and the courage to conquer WHATEVER you choose;
It's the person WHO NEVER GETS STARTED, that is destined FOREVER to lose!

Carol Dugan, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2012, has been very busy this summer, with appearances, parades in the Garden State, and special events in Atlantic City.  Below is a brief recap of her activities, along with the members of the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB, her newly found "sisterhood".  Carol is currently in California, where she and MS FLORIDA SENIOR AMERICA 2012, are the invited guests of the Susanne Somers Show.  They are videotaping a TV show for the Lifetime Network, which will be aired sometime in the fall.  Way to go girl!

Classy Carol smiles brightly besides an equally classy convertible that she rode in at the July 4th Smithville parade.

Carol received awards, letters and accomodations for her achievement by Local, County, State, and Federal politicians.  Here, she is with Freeholder Frank Formica, President of the Atlantic County Board of Chosen Freeholders 2nd District, as he reads the words of her proclamation.

Meanwhile, Carol performed with her NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB "sisters" in a fabulous show at the Kennedy Mall, on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, on Sunday, July 22nd.  The ladies provided a variety show which included popular songs and an operatic aria, and dances of different styles.

The July meeting of  NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB was for the purpose of welcoming Carol and the Class of 2012.  A special luncheon was prepared for them, and Carol was honored with a gift. It was also a time to say "goodbye" to Debbie Sidoti, MS RHODE ISLAND 2004, and a long time NJCC member.  She and husband Sam sold their home and are moving to Florida. The meeting concluded with a photo-op of the membership.

For dessert, there was s special cake. On the top, were printed 2 phrases: one to welcome Carol and the Classof  2012, and the other, words of farewell to Debbie Sidoti. Carol made the first cut.

Since this article is a "SUMMER WRAP UP", some ladies of the NJ CAMEO CLUB have also been busy outside the pageant organization.  Dr.Sandra Greco, MSNJSA2003 & MSSA2003, who moved to Florida this year, sent a photo of her with a Sand Castle "pirate"

Several ladies competed in the SHORE SENIOR IDOL 2012 contest, which was on Sunday, July 8th, at the Algonquin Arts Theatre, in Manasquan.  Pictured from left to right: Bernadette Dudek, MSNJSA 2009/Mistress of Ceremonies and 2009 winner, Sherri McGhie, Johanne Santori/MSNJSA 2006, JoAnn Gordon/MSNJSA 2008, Rebecca Orsatti/MSNJSA 2010, Josephine Araniti/MSNJSA 2007, Renee Tompkins/Class of 2012, 3rd RU, and Leah Whelan/Class of 2012, 1st RU.  All ladies gave dynamic performances.

This year the 1st PRIZE of  $500.00 and the title, SHORE SENIOR IDOL 2012, went to Josephine Araniti, operatic soprano, of Brick.

The biggest event "down at the Jersey Shore" was the ARMED FORCES PARADE & AIRSHOW, which was held Wednesday, August 22nd. The parade started at the SHOWBOAT HOTEL & CASINO, and ended at the ATLANTIC CLUB HOTEL & CASINO.  There were 145 groups that participated in the parade. The rainshowers cleared up just in time, and the stars came out to welcome both participants and spectators.  The ladies of the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB performed a mini concert atop a colorful float that moved slowly and gently down the boardwalk.  They dazzled the enthusiastic crowd with a saucy rendition of "BROADWAY LADIES", a medley of 3 songs, "We're In The Money, Big Spender, and Whatever Lola Wants".

Carol Dugan, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2012, was the featured attraction.

Her "rock style" really rocked the crowd!  Here she is singing "We Are Family", while the ladies also rocked to the beat and waved their flags.  The mini concert included 5 songs in all, and was repeated 5 times.  It was a great night ... the ladies shined and were at their best.  This was the first time they actually entertained on a float.  In prior parades, they looked beautiful, and waved and smiled as they passed by.  But the addition of musical performance added more depth and excitement, and showcased the ladies' talents.
All this was made possible by the efforts of one man ... one very special man and his IPOD technology ... John Dugan.  Thank you, John, for giving us the gift of your expertise, and time.  Last, but not least, kudos to our leader,  Johanne Santori,  MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA STATE PAGEANT DIRECTOR,  for finding and arranging this wonderful venue which gave so much pleasure to all, and allowed these elegant ladies to express their God-given talents.

 After the pageant, photographers flooded the stage to take photos of the new Queen, Carol Dugan, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2012

      This year marked the debut performance of THE GREAT DAMES CHORUS.  The photo above was taken at a rehearsal last March, at the American Legion Post 166, in Lakewood, when the members decided to wear club jackets.

Could it be the fresh, salty sea and air, or the proximity to Atlantic City shows, that afford area women the opportunity to become astute students of performance better than women in other parts of the Garden State?  Whatever the reason, Atlantic County women just "seem to do it better," and the crown remains there for the 3rd year in a row.

On Thursday, June 7th, the 42nd MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2012 was held at Harrah's Resort Hotel and Casino, in the Concert Venue Theater, and the winner is ... Carol Dugan!

A resident of Ventnor City, Carol Dugan has an impressive biography which includes: volunteer work for many worthy causes; as well as membership in several community and nationally based organizations, in which she serves the elderly, homebound patients, and people on hospice, creating and implementing fitness programs and massage.

Carol sang a stirring and uplifting patriotic medley for the TALENT  portion of the pageant.  Her performance was powerful and quickly won the hearts of both a distinguished panel of judges, and an enthusiastic audience. A petite woman, Carol looked radiant, and spoke eloquently, for the PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE/EVENING GOWN portion.

Carol Dugan is indeed the embodiment of the MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT organization's philosophy, which is, to promote the positive aspects of aging to our State's Senior Americans.  All of us extend our best wishes to Carol as she begins her busy year, traveling from one end of the State to the other, and also to prepare for the national pageant in October.

Besides the competition, the audience was treated to performances by former State and National Queens, and the debut performance of THE GREAT DAMES CHORUS, under ther direction of Josephine Araniti, MSNJSA2007. They sang a medley of familiar broadway songs that included, "We're in the Money, Hey, Big Spender, and Whatever Lola Wants."   The whole production was conceived and skillfully produced by Johanne Santori, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA STATE PAGEANT DIRECTOR.

Goodbye, to Dr. Sandra Greco, MSNJSA 2003 & MSSA2003

The Winter months did not not deter the ladies of the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB from making their "appointed rounds." They performed several shows in adult communities and clubs, assisted living facilities and nursing homes, and spread joy with their own very special God- given talents.

MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA STATE PAGEANT Director Johanne Santori, has been busy reviewing the applications that have come in, and meeting and interviewing this year's crop of contestants. She is happy to report that the "Class of 2012" has 15 contestants, and all the ladies are so talented and beautiful.

Desiree Nigrelli, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2011, also has maintained a busy schedule of performances, parades and other personal appearances.

The GREAT DAMES CHORUS, has rehearsed during February and March, and are sounding great. Director Josephine Araniti is thrilled with their effort, and can't wait for their debut performance at the MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT 2012.

Good news is always a pleasure to write about, but alas, the winter has not passed without some unhappy events. There are 2 proverbs that can sum it up: (1) February takes your bones; and (2) beware the "ides of March." Death claimed one Cameo lady, while others lost either their spouses or siblings. Several of our ladies are fighting courageous battles to regain their health and the health of their spouses.

Saying goodbye is hard to do. Sandra Greco, MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2003, and MS SENIOR AMERICA 2003, has been a dear friend to many, and loyal NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB member. She and her husband Dan are moving to Florida at the end of March. We will miss her very much, and all of us wish them much happiness in their new home.

Lastly, another proverb comes to mind, "Spring springs eternal." Hopefully, we can hang onto this thought and look forward to the months ahead, at which time we will all be renewed and all of our dreams may come true!

Kudos go once again to our officers, Jo Ann Gordon/Vice President, Dale Maglia/President, Agnes Traschetti/Secretary, and Joan Kaplan/Treasurer, for a great meeting, and for their tireless energy and attention to details that continue to make the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB the best it can be!

The MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT has seen much growth during the past 4 years, with JOHANNE SANTORI (and husband Adeo) directing the organization. She revealed a great strategy for the 2012 pageant at the meeting.

Delores Puzio, Director, NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB SHOWCASE, deserves a round of gratitude for arranging a steady schedule of performances throughout the State. She is affectionately known as our energizer bunny.

Desiree Nigrelli, MS NEWJERSEY SENIOR AMERICA 2011, has reached the mid-point of her reign. She has been very busy with her many commitments, and she has spread much cheer and good will throughout the Garden State with her lovely smile and voice.

The first meeting of the year of the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB is always the best, and Wednesday, January 18th was no different. The pot luck luncheon was a delicious array of favorite recipes that the ladies prepared especially for the occasion.

The meeting that followed was full of good news from all the standing committees. Their reports reflected how hard everyone had worked in 2011, to make both the NEW JERSEY CAMEO CLUB and the MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT successful. Each committee chairwoman concluded her report with expressions of hope and high expectations for the new year.

It was good to welcome back the ladies who were out for several months due to illness. Some had traveled a long road towards recovery. They looked great, well rested, and willing to take on new responsibilities. Everyone in attendance seemed energized, and eager to set the many plans and projects in motion to make the 41st year of both organizations the best ever.

The meeting adjourned early in order to give time for the first rehearsal of the GREAT DAMES CHORUS. Although it was a short rehearsal, the ladies took to the music like fish to water! They were eager to get started, and the first rehearsal was full of great promise. It was obvious that they had practiced the music on their own, because they followed Director Josephine Araniti easily. Broadway Ladies, a medley of 3 great songs, is a real crowd pleaser and show stopper, and Wednseday was a great first rehearsal for the fledgling group. The GREAT DAMES CHORUS is scheduled to make their debut performance at the MS NEW JERSEY SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT 2012.
